My Top 4 Favourite Cornish Beaches

The South West is well known for its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches, so whether you’re in Cornwall for a wedding, holiday or business, a trip to the beach is an essential. I love making the most of it here because it provides a phenomenal backdrop to my photography.

1. Crantock

A short drive from Newquay on the North Cornish Coast, Crantock beach is a very versatile location for a photoshoot. At low tide it’s a really big beach, providing a diverse backdrop to capture fantastic photos. This includes the beach itself, the tide line, sand dunes, sea caves and the estuary. Add in a fiery sunset and this place has it all!

2. Gwithian

Further South, you’ll find Gwithian. This beach is easily accessible, and this is one of the reasons why it’s a favourite of mine for family photoshoots. A point of interest is the lighthouse that can be seen offshore on the rocky Godrevy Island.

3. Fistral

Deemed to be one of the world’s top surfing destinations, I couldn’t miss out the iconic beach that is Fistral. Only a five minute drive from Newquay town centre, it’s the go-to beach for many! Go there at the peak of summer and it’ll be a hive of activity, go there out of season and it’ll be much quieter and calming. With the Atlantic Ocean, sand dunes, tide pools, the lesser-known Little Fistral and its craggy rocks, there are plenty of compelling places for a photoshoot.

4. Great Western

In a cove surrounded by dramatic, steep cliffs you’ll find Great Western beach. It had to be included in my top four beaches because this is where I got married! The sea is fairly calm for paddling or a dip, while the dramatic sea caves are imposing and await exploration.
